Free Crochet Dolphin Amigurumi Pattern
After learning how to crochet a simple cylinder, then the next step is to try making a simple animal amigurumi like a dolphin! This involves crocheting a bent cylinder with some curves and then simply adding on some fins as well. With the free pattern below and the accompanying video, you will be mastering this animal in no time!

Introduction to Crocheting Dolphin
In this post, we will first be starting off with the relevant supplies and techniques you would need to crochet this dolphin. Here to make things simple, we will only be using 2 colours - 1 on top and 1 at the base. Then we will head into the pattern proper which includes the head, body and fins.
As this is a beginner friendly pattern, here you will learn how to crochet a simple tube and also learn how to use popcorn stitches to make the fins.

Supplies and Techniques for Crocheting a Dolphin
Here I have listed the techniques as well as the materials needed to crochet a dolphin amigurumi. Terminology for Crocheting Dolphin
Ch = chain
St = stitch (refers to number of stitches in one round)
2sc1 = single crochet increase (meaning 2 single crochet in same stitch)
Sc2tog1 = single crochet decrease (referring to invisible decrease)
Special Stitches for Crocheting Dolphin
4sc1 = 4 single crochet in same stitch
5dc pop = 5 double crochet popcorn stitch
5dc in indicated, remove hook from loop, insert hook through 1st dc of 5-dc group, replace loop on hook, yo, draw tightly through loop and st on hook
Materials and Tools for Crocheting Dolphin
Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn
Version 1 - Light blue, White (25gm each)
Version 2 - Blue, White (25gm each)
Black (stash for eyes)
Darning needle
Filling – use leftover yarn or polyester fiberfill
Scissors
Glass eyes (just for landmarking)

Yarn
Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn
Crochet hook
2.5-3.0mm Clover crochet hook
Stuffing
Use leftover yarn or polyester fibrefill
Darning Needles
Safety Eyes
4mm glass eyes or safety eyes
Stitch Markers
Plastic stitch markers or metal stitch markers
Crochet Dolphin Pattern
Crochet Dolphin Head and Body
Start off head with blue yarn.
Round 1: Magic ring sc4 (blue) - 4st
Round 2: (Sc1, 2sc1) x 2 (all blue) - 6st
Round 3: Sc5, 2sc1 (all blue) - 7st
Get ready white yarn for the next round.
Round 4: Sc2 (white), sc1 (blue), 4sc1 (blue), sc1 (blue,) sc2 (white) - 10st
Round 5: Sc2 (white), sc2 (blue), 2sc2 (blue), sc2 (blue), sc2 (white) - 12st
Round 6: Sc3 (white), sc2 (blue), 2sc2 (blue), sc2 (blue), sc3 (white) - 14st
Round 7: Sc3 (white), sc3 (blue), 2sc2 (blue), sc3 (blue), sc3 (white) - 16st
Round 8: Sc3 (white), sc10 (blue), sc3 (white) - 16st
Round 9: Sc3 (white), sc10 (blue), sc3 (white) - 16st
Round 10: Sc3 (white), 5dc pop (blue), sc8 (blue), 5dc pop (blue), sc3 (white) - 16st
Round 11: Sc3 (white), sc3 (blue), sc2tog2 (blue), sc3 (blue), sc3 (white) - 14st
Round 12: Sc3 (white), sc4 (blue), 5dc pop (blue), sc4 (blue), sc2 (white) - 14st
Round 13: 2sc2 (white), sc3 (blue), sc2tog1 (blue), sc1 (blue), sc2tog1 (blue), sc3 (blue), sc1 (white) - 14st
Round 14: Sc1 (white), 2sc1 (white), sc1 (white), sc3 (blue), sc2tog3 (blue), sc2 (blue) - 12st
Round 15: Sc2 (white), 2sc1 (white), sc4 (blue), sc2tog1 (blue), sc3 (blue) - 12st
Add stuffing to snout and body.
Crochet Dolphin Tail
Continue into the tail from the body.
Round 16: Sc2tog1 (blue), 2sc1 (white), sc1 (white), sc3 (blue), sc2tog2 (blue), sc1 (blue) - 10st
Round 17: Sc2 (blue), 2sc1 (white), sc1 (white), sc2 (blue), sc2tog1 (blue), sc2 (blue) - 10st
Round 18: Sc2tog1 (blue), sc1 (blue), 2sc1 (white), sc1 (white), sc1 (blue), sc2tog2 (blue) - 8st
Add stuffing again before there is further narrowing.
Round 19: Sc2tog1 (blue), sc1 (blue), 2sc1 (white), sc4 (blue) - 8st
Cut off white yarn.
Round 20: Sc2tog1, sc1, 2sc1, sc2tog2 (all blue) - 6st
Round 21: Sc2tog1, 5dc pop, 2sc1, sc1, 5dc pop (all blue) - 6st
Round 22: Sl st 1 and end off.
Close up in FLO using blue yarn and fasten off.

Embroider Dolphin Face
Embroider Dolphin Eyes
Add eyes by embroidering French knots just above the snout, on either side.
Thread in through head and out to the desired eye location. Without removing yarn from the needle, place tip of needle close to the surface of the face. Loop yarn close to the face around needle twice.
Insert eye back into intended eye position and out through head again. Do not pull the yarn taut because the whole knot will go into the head. Instead, when pulling needle out of the head, pull gently so that the knot stays on the face.
