A double crochet is 2 times the height of a single crochet and also higher than a half double crochet. It is also a great stitch to use for bobble stitches.

For a half double crochet, the stitch is taller than that of single crochet. I frequently use hdc to create a subtle bust appearance for my female amigurumi as it looks raised above usual sc in the round.

Single crochet is the simplest stitch to make and what is used most of the time. You can use it in a chain or in a round like a magic circle.

In the previous post on starting with Ch2 and sc, we mentioned about how to start a round with that method but we do end up with a gap in the centre. When using the magic ring technique, you can pull the free end of the yarn taut such that the gap disappears!

Start off with a simple slip knot. After the first yarn over and pulling through the loop on the hook, you should have one foundation chain.

Here is the introduction on how to initially start off, even before progressing on to making chains and circles. Then subsequent stitches built onto this can progress into round or rectangular shapes.

This is a short tutorial on how to make your own homemade mobile from an embroidery hoop, which you can just get from your regular craft store or online. I actually prefer a hoop mobile to a cross mobile, mostly because you can choose to hang more items on it. You can basically choose how many strings to add on, in any part of the hoop!

Actually making the Starfleet uniform is pretty much the same for the whole TNG crew, minus the changes in colours. So I thought that adding in the rank pips will make for good differentiation and distinction.

So it’s not all fun and games when you are selling at Artist Alley. To be honest, now that I reflect back… it may be my first and last ‘craft market’. Not that it wasn’t an interesting experience, but I think people don’t give crafters enough credit for the work they put in, especially at craft fairs.
