    Part 2 – Another Mystery Awaits!

    This project is a wonderful example of how simple crochet shapes can be combined to create something entirely new.

    Materials You’ll Need

    The materials needed are listed below or if you wish to see what I start off most of my projects with, then check out this post on β€œMy Crochet Tools and Accessories that are Super Simple to Start With”. This time I will be working with chunky weight yarn.

    Yarn

    Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn for accessories

    • Red (25g)

    • Light brown (50g)

    • Eyes: Black (stash)

    Crochet Hooks

    Rest of Supplies

    Darning needle

    Stitch markers

    Filling – use leftover yarn or polyester fiberfill

    1. Fingering weight yarn - Scheepjes Catona for accessories

    • Orange (25g)

    • Red (25g)

    • Light brown (50g)

    Rest of Supplies

    Darning Needles

    Stuffing

    Use leftover yarn or polyester fibrefill

    Stitch Markers

    Plastic stitch markers or metal stitch markers


    Terminology You’ll Need

    Here I have listed the techniques needed to crochet just this first part .     Basic Crochet Stitches

    Ch = chain

    Sc = single crochet

    Sl st = slip stitch

    St = stitch (refers to number of stitches in one round)

    Inc = single crochet increase (meaning 2 single crochet in same stitch) 

    Sc2tog = single crochet decrease (referring to invisible decrease) 

    FLO = front loop only

    BLO = back loop only

    Rustling Mystery MAL Part 2

    Mushroom Head

    Start off mushroom with red yarn.

    Round 1: Magic ring sc 5 - 5 sts

    Round 2: Inc in next 5 sts - 10 sts

    Round 3: Inc in next 10 sts - 20 sts

    Round 4: Sc 20 - 20 sts

    Round 5: (Sc 1, inc) x 10 - 30 sts

    Round 6: Sc 30 - 30 sts

    Round 7: (Sc 2, inc) x 10 - 40 sts

    Rounds 8-9: Sc 40 - 40 sts

    Mushroom Body

    Change to light brown yarn.

    Round 10: Sc2tog x 20 in BLO - 20 sts

    Use standard single crochet decrease instead of invisible decrease when working into BLO.

    Round 11: (Sc 2, sc2tog) x 5 - 15 sts

    Round 12: (Sc 1, sc2tog1) x 5 - 10 sts

    Round 13: Sc 10 - 10 sts

    Round 14: (Sc 1, inc) x 5 - 15 sts

    Round 15: Sc 15 - 15 sts

    Round 16: (Sc 2, inc) x 5 - 20 sts

    Rounds 17-18: Sc 20 - 20 sts

    Round 19: Sc2tog x 10 - 10 sts

    Round 20: Sc2tog x 5 - 5 sts

    Cut off any excess yarn and leave a trail to close up. Close up in FLO in the final round.

    Spots on Mushroom

    Use light brown for the spots on mushroom.

    Largest

    Round 1: Magic ring sc 5 - 5 sts

    Round 2: Sl st 1 and end off - 1 st

    Smallest

    Round 1: Magic ring sc 3 - 3 sts

    Round 2: Sl st 1 and end off - 1 st

    Use light brown French knots to make little small spots on mushroom head.

    Mushroom Face

    Use black yarn to make 2 French knots for the eyes and sew down a horizontal smile right under the eyes.
