Welcome Back to the Festive Mystery CAL – Part 7🎄
With both hind legs complete, our festive friend can finally stand tall — but now it’s time to bring balance to the front. In this part, we’ll be adding the front left leg, which has a slightly different contour than the back legs to give your character a more natural shape. 🦌
As always, you’ll have detailed step-by-step instructions, photos, and a video tutorial to guide you along. Meanwhile in the story, Nibbles is inching closer to finding his snacks… though Tinsel still seems to be having a little too much fun with the chase. 🍭

Part 7 – Moving Forward
This is where your project begins to feel more complete and balanced. By shaping the front left leg differently from the hind legs, you’ll start to see your character take on a lifelike stance and personality. ✨
It’s a fun part to work on, and slightly different detailing than the hind legs, so take your time and enjoy the process. With each new piece, your festive friend looks closer to stepping right out of the story to join Nibbles in his holiday adventure.

Materials You’ll Need
The materials needed are listed below or if you wish to see what I start off most of my projects with, then check out this post on “My Crochet Tools and Accessories that are Super Simple to Start With”. This time I will be working with chunky weight yarn.
Yarn
Himalayan Dolphin or Dolce Yarnart or any equivalent chunky weight yarn for main piece
Brown (100g)
Dark brown (100g)
White (100g)
Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn for accessories
Black (25g)
White (25g)
Crochet Hooks
4.5mm Etimo Tulip crochet hook
3.0mm Clover Soft Touch crochet hook
Rest of Supplies
Darning needle
Filling – use leftover yarn or polyester fiberfill

Terminology You’ll Need

Basic Crochet Stitches
Ch = chain
St = stitch (refers to number of stitches in one round)
2sc1 = single crochet increase (meaning 2 single crochet in same stitch)
Sc2tog1 = single crochet decrease (referring to invisible decrease)
Special Crochet Stitches
3sc2 = 3 single crochet in next 2 stitches
Sc3tog1 = single crochet 3 together
= insert hook in indicated, yo, pull up loop, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up loop, repeat another 1 times, yo, pull through all loops on hook
(or single crochet cluster stitch)
Dc6tog1 = double crochet 6 together
= yo, insert hook in indicated, yo, pull up loop, yo, draw through 2, [yo, insert hook in next, yo, pull up loop, yo, draw through 2] 5 times, (7 loops on hook), yo, pull through all loops on hook
Surface sc = surface single crochet

Festive Mystery CAL Part 7
Left Front Leg
Start left front leg with brown yarn.
Round 1: Insert hook into stitch closest to the white part of front chest. Surface sc10 over front inner part of leg in clockwise direction (3 on inner side where chain was and 7 along original st) (all brown) - 10st
Round 2: Sc2, 2sc1, sc4, 2sc1, sc2 (all brown) - 12st
Round 3: Sc12 (brown) - 12st
Stuff the leg.
Round 4: Sc3, 2sc2, sc4, sc3tog1 (all brown) - 12st
Round 5: Sc12 (brown) - 12st
Round 6: Sc5, 3sc2, sc2, sc3tog1 (all white) - 14st
Stuff the leg. Cut off brown yarn.
Round 7: Sc11, sc3tog1 (all white) - 12st
Round 8: Sc3tog1, sc9 (all dark brown) - 10st
Add stuffing again. Cut off white yarn.
Round 9: Sc2tog1, dc6tog1, sc2tog1 (all dark brown) - 3st
Close up in FLO and end off.
