Welcome Back to the Festive Mystery CAL – Part 4 🎄

We’ve been building piece by piece, and now it’s time for a big step forward. In this part, we’ll be finishing both the head and the body — the foundation of our festive character! With these two sections complete, the mystery will feel much closer to being solved… can you already guess who it might be? 👀

You’ll find the usual step-by-step instructions, progress photos, and a video tutorial to guide you through. And, of course, the holiday story continues as Nibbles edges closer to uncovering his missing snacks, while Tinsel always seems to be one step ahead. 🍬

So grab your yarn and hook — the adventure is about to get even more exciting! 🎁

    Part 4 – A Big Reveal

    This is the moment where your project starts to truly come alive. By completing the head and body, you’ll finally see the full shape of your mystery character take form. ✨

    It’s a rewarding milestone, but we’re not done yet — there are still important details and finishing touches waiting ahead. Just like Nibbles’ search for his treats, the journey isn’t over, and a few surprises remain to be discovered along the way.

    Materials You’ll Need

    The materials needed are listed below or if you wish to see what I start off most of my projects with, then check out this post on “My Crochet Tools and Accessories that are Super Simple to Start With”. This time I will be working with chunky weight yarn.

    Yarn

    Himalayan Dolphin or Dolce Yarnart or any equivalent chunky weight yarn for main piece

    • Brown (100g)

    • Dark brown (100g)

    • White (100g)

    Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn for accessories

    • Black (25g)

    • White (25g)

    Crochet Hooks

    4.5mm Etimo Tulip crochet hook

    3.0mm Clover Soft Touch crochet hook

    Rest of Supplies

    Darning needle

    Stitch markers

    Filling – use leftover yarn or polyester fiberfill

    White x 1 (100g)

    Light brown x 1 (100g)

    Dark brown x 1 (100g)

    2. Fingering weight yarn - Scheepjes Catona for accessories

    White x 1 (25g)

    Black x 1 (25g)

    Crochet Hooks

     

    Larger

    4.5mm Etimo Tulip

     

    Smaller

    3.0mm Clover  

     

    Rest of Supplies

    Darning Needles

    Stuffing

    Use leftover yarn or polyester fibrefill

    Stitch Markers

    Plastic stitch markers or metal stitch markers

    Terminology You’ll Need

    Here I have listed the techniques needed to crochet just this first part. Each one is individually linked if you need to learn more about how to master each technique, or you could check out this post on “How to Learn Basic Crochet Stitches step by step for Absolute Beginners - 6 Easy Steps!”.

    Basic Crochet Stitches

    Ch = chain

    Sc = single crochet

    Hdc = half double crochet

    Dc = double crochet

    Tr = treble crochet

    Sl st = slip stitch 

    St = stitch (refers to number of stitches in one round)

    2sc1 = single crochet increase (meaning 2 single crochet in same stitch) 

    Sc2tog1 = single crochet decrease (referring to invisible decrease) 

    FLO = front loop only

    BLO = back loop only

    Special Crochet Stitches

    2dc3 = 2 double crochet in next 3 stitches

    Continue onto body from head.

    Round 20: Sc4 (white), 2sc3 (brown), sc55 (brown), sc2 (white) - 67st

    Round 21: Sc4 (white), sc61 (brown), sc2 (white) - 67st

    Round 22: Sc4 (white), sc61 (brown), sc2 (white) - 67st

    Round 23: Sc4 (white), sc61 (brown), sc2 (white) - 67st

    Round 24: Sc4 (white), ch3 and skip 7st (brown), sc10 (brown), skip 12st, sc1 (brown), skip 12st, sc12 (brown), ch3 and skip 7st (brown), sc2 (white) - 29st

    Add stuffing to body.

    Round 25: Sc2tog2 (white), sc3 into ch (brown), sc2tog5 (brown), sc1 (brown), sc2tog6 (brown), sc3 into ch (brown), sc2tog1 (white) - 21st

    Cut off brown yarn.

    Round 26: Sc2tog5, sc1, sc2tog5 (all white) - 11st

    Round 27: Sc2tog5, sc1 (all white) - 6st

    Close up in FLO and end off.
