🌿 Welcome Back to the Meadow Mystery CAL – Part 7

With Meadow’s body and limbs complete, he’s finally standing steady in the meadow — and now it’s time for the details that truly bring him to life. In this part, we’ll be working on Meadow’s finishing touches, using simple shapes to add character and personality where it matters most.

You’ll have the usual step-by-step instructions, photos, and a video tutorial to guide you through this section.

    Part 6 – Near the End!

    For this part, we’re putting a curved cone shape to work — a simple form that’s incredibly versatile for animal details like horns. 

    As you build it, pay attention to how the curve develops. Small changes in shaping here make a big difference to the final character. 

    We’re nearly at the finish line now, with just the last details left to bring everything together. Take your time with this section — it’s one of those finishing touches that really completes the look.

    Materials You’ll Need

    The materials needed are listed below or if you wish to see what I start off most of my projects with, then check out this post on “My Crochet Tools and Accessories that are Super Simple to Start With”. This time I will be working with chunky weight yarn.

    Yarn

    Himalayan Dolphin or Dolce Yarnart or any equivalent chunky weight yarn for main piece

    • Brown (100g)

    • White (100g)

    Scheepjes Catona or any equivalent fingering or sport weight yarn for accessories

    • Black (25g)

    • White (25g)

    Crochet Hooks

    Rest of Supplies

    Darning needle

    Stitch markers

    Filling – use leftover yarn or polyester fiberfill

    White x 1 (100g)

    Light brown x 1 (100g)

    2. Fingering weight yarn - Scheepjes Catona for accessories

    White x 1 (25g)

    Black x 1 (25g)

    Larger

    5.0mm Streamline Wood Crochet Hooks Limited Edition Sage Ombre

    Rest of Supplies

    Darning Needles

    Stuffing

    Use leftover yarn or polyester fibrefill

    Stitch Markers

    Plastic stitch markers or metal stitch markers


    Terminology You’ll Need

    Here I have listed the techniques needed to crochet just this first part . Each one is individually linked if you need to learn more about how to master each technique, or you could check out this post on “How to Learn Basic Crochet Stitches step by step for Absolute Beginners - 6 Easy Steps!”.

    Basic Crochet Stitches

    Ch = chain

    Sc = single crochet

    Hdc = half double crochet

    Dc = double crochet

    Tr = treble crochet

    Sl st = slip stitch 

    St = stitch (refers to number of stitches in one round)

    2sc1 = single crochet increase (meaning 2 single crochet in same stitch) 

    Sc2tog1 = single crochet decrease (referring to invisible decrease) 

    FLO = front loop only

    BLO = back loop only

    Special Crochet Stitches

    3sc1 = 3 single crochet in same stitch

    Meadow Mystery CAL Part 7

    Horns

    Use white yarn to make 2 sets of horns.

    • Round 1: Ch2, work into 2nd ch from hook, 3sc1 - 3st

    • Round 2: Sc2, 2sc1 - 4st

    • Round 3: Sc3, 2sc1 - 5st

    • Round 4: Sc3, 2sc2 - 7st

    • Round 5: Sc2tog2, sc1, 2sc2 - 7st

    • Round 6: Repeat Round 5 - 7st

    Sew down the horns facing inwards just inside of both ears on the main head.

    Hair Tuft

    Use brown yarn to make the hair tuft.

    Ch5

    • Work into 2nd ch from hook, (sc1, ch15 and sc14 down, sl st 1 into same main ch),

    • (sc1, ch10 and sc9 down, sl st 1 into same main ch) x 2,

    • (sc1, ch15 and sc14 down, sl st 1 into same main ch)

    Then work into other side of foundation chain, in same last ch,

    • (sc1, ch15 and sc14 down, sl st 1 into same main ch),

    • (sc1, ch10 and sc9 down, sl st 1 into same main ch) x 2,

    • (sc1, ch15 and sc14 down, sl st 1 into same main ch)

    Sew down hair tuft in the middle of 2 white horns.

    This part is all about the details — the final touches that make Meadow really come to life. These elements work up super fast, but they make a huge difference to the overall character and expression. This section takes about 30 minutes in total, includes captions with voice-overs, and is a fun, satisfying stage where you can finally see the amigurumi come together.
