Full disclosure: I have received the Tokyo Treats Box for free in return for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and not influenced by Tokyo Treats in any way. I would never recommend (or even accept) a product that I don’t absolutely love and am excited about!

Unboxing the TokyoTreat Snack Box
One of the most exciting parts of TokyoTreat is the unboxing experience.
Since the box is a mystery each month, you never quite know what you’re going to get.
Packaging
The packaging is beautifully designed and they make the effort to create a different themed box every month.
The March box I received had a Sakura theme, celebrating Japan’s cherry blossom season.
Some past themes include:
Super Sweet Valentine
Snackin’ Wonderland
Fuji Fall Snackscape
The graphic design on the box is gorgeous and honestly gave me quite a bit of inspiration just looking at the colours and themes (my crochet brain is always working!).
Since every box is a surprise, you won’t know the exact theme or snack contents beforehand — which makes opening it even more fun.
First Impressions
My first reaction when opening the box was simply:
“Wow… that’s a lot of snacks.”
There were so many colourful packages with Japanese writing on them that it took me a moment to realise there was actually a reference booklet inside explaining everything.
This booklet turned out to be incredibly helpful because it tells you:
what each snack is
the flavour
and sometimes the cultural background behind it
Without it I would probably just be guessing!
What’s Inside the TokyoTreat Box?
The box contains a mixture of sweet snacks, savory snacks, and sometimes a larger item like ramen.
Here are some of the items included in the Sakura themed box.
Reference Booklet
The booklet explains every snack inside the box and also introduces the monthly theme.
This was actually really helpful because many of the snack packages are written entirely in Japanese.
The booklet also makes the box feel a little like a Japanese snack tour, helping you discover snacks you might never have noticed even if you were visiting Japan.
Sweet Candies
Some of the smaller treats included:
Rainbow Sugar Candy
Strawberry Milk Candies
Cherry Mochi Bites
The packaging for these was incredibly colourful and pretty.
Sweet Treats
There were also quite a few dessert style snacks:
Sakura KitKat
Strawberry Cream Cookies
Cherry Blossom Cookies
Cherry Blossom Donut Stick
Sakura Blossom Cake
The Sakura KitKat immediately caught my attention because whenever I travel to Japan, I always end up buying different KitKat flavours to bring home.
In the past I’ve brought back green tea and cheesecake flavours, so it was fun seeing another seasonal variation inside the box.
Savory Snacks
For salty snack lovers, the box included things like:
Sakura Shrimp Rice Crackers
Spring Okonomiyaki Corn Puffs
Sakura Peanuts
Blooming Rice Cracker Bites
These were perfect bite sized snacks to try throughout the day. I’m literally finishing up the peanuts as I am typing this.
Bonus Item: Instant Ramen
One interesting surprise inside the box was vegan shoyu ramen.
I wasn’t expecting ramen in a snack box, but it actually made the experience feel even more authentic since instant ramen is such a big part of Japanese food culture.
My Favourite Snacks From the Box
A few snacks stood out to me the most.
Sakura KitKat
This was the first thing I tried. I’ve always loved the unique Japanese KitKat flavours, so it was fun discovering another seasonal version.
The colourful candies
These were small but beautifully packaged and very fun to try.
Instant ramen
This was a nice surprise and made the box feel a bit more substantial.
Taste Test
Of course, the most important question is: how do the snacks actually taste?
My Taste Test
I’m personally more inclined toward sweet snacks, so I started with the KitKat and the smaller candies, which were exactly what I expected — sweet and enjoyable.
The savory snacks were decent for me, though I generally gravitate toward sweet treats.
The donut snack and packaged cake were okay as well. Since baked goods are sealed in plastic packaging, they naturally don’t taste quite like fresh bakery items, though the Japanese are definitely masters at packaging food nicely.
Kids Taste Test
My kids had a lot of fun tasting the snacks too.
Because most of the items are small and bite sized, it was easy for them to sample different things.
My son prefers salty snacks, so he immediately went for the rice crackers.
Unfortunately we accidentally left them open overnight and they turned soft — which was quite disappointing for him!
My daughter prefers sweet snacks, so she loved the tiny candies and cream cookies.
Overall the box turned into a pretty fun family taste testing session.

Final Thoughts: Is TokyoTreat Worth It?
TokyoTreat offers a really fun way to explore Japanese snack culture from home.
If you enjoy discovering new snacks and surprises, the mystery box format makes the experience exciting every month.
It’s especially fun for families or anyone who enjoys Japanese culture and seasonal treats.
For frequent Japan travelers like my sister (who goes to Japan about four times a year!), it may not replace the experience of visiting Japan in person.
But for people who live further away or can’t travel there often, TokyoTreat is a great way to bring a little taste of Japan to your doorstep.
